Diploma vs. Degree – Learn the Difference

Diplomas and degrees are awarded to people that have successfully completed an educational course. However, there are several distinct differences between the two terms that prevents them from being used interchangeably. A degree course usually emphasizes significance on academics, and curriculum is structured so that the person taking the course is provided with a comprehensive overview allowing them to explore further academic and career interests.

A diploma, on he other hand, places the focus on getting a person trained and qualified for a particular trade. The curriculum usually teaches the minimum required academic knowledge, and emphasizes how to handle situations on the job. Some diploma programs may even require a short string of apprenticeships and/or on-the-job training.
