Get Help TodayA medical assistant certification is an award given to medical assistants who are tasked with assisting in a variety of administrative and clinical procedures.
Medical assistants must have the required knowledge and skills to perform successfully on the job. Doctors and private practices rely heavily on medical assistants who are a valuable and important asset to any health care team.
Medical assistant certifications are not a requirement for employment. However, many medical assistants choose to become certified because certification can lead to career advancement and salary increases along with additional training and experience. A medical assistant certification also serves to insure patients that medical assistants assigned to their care are well trained and qualified to assist.
The role of certified medical assistants is two-fold: assisting the doctor and performing administrative tasks. Administrative work includes appointment booking, appointment scheduling and follow-up, obtaining patient test results and providing the doctor with relevant information. Assisting the doctor may include completing medical forms, scheduling doctor-to-doctor appointments and filling out medical forms.

The AAMA takes on the role of making sure that skilled and knowledgeable medical assistants continue to play a vital role in helping a wide range of medical organizations run smoothly.
